Andrew Mallett
Writer and author of nobluescreens.com, Andy has many years of experience in IT. He cut his teeth in network administration as Manager for Information Systems for the Department of Psychiatry in Sydney and later technically administered a national project as a Team Leader at Compaq Computers (now HP) Western Sydney, New South Wales.
With a background which includes administering Novell, Windows, Linux and Unix networks, Andy maintains that he knows from (often cruel) experience which systems make the best servers.
Andy maintains a number of websites, including the offbeat Tech Page, designed for students attending TAFE Tasmania, where he lectures in Information Technology.
Nick Fratangelo
Nick is a Unix System Administrator, currently managing three dedicated servers located in the US (one of these he says, is "unfortunately running Windows 2003"). Nick's current focus is on providing a reliable IPP (Internet Presence Provider) service, which includes features such as web hosting, shell hosting and reseller accounts for web providers.
Nick is a major FreeBSD fan, although due to regulations from many web providers he has been forced to get very familiar with Linux CentOS and Slackware. However when it comes down to it, you will still find him tapping away at his two FreeBSD boxes at home.
Also heavily involved in web page development, Nick owns, designs and maintains a number of great websites including
http://www.virtualhost.com.au (web hosting), http://www.apollochat.com (chat room), http://www.freeringtones.st (mobile ring tones) plus many others.
Nick is currently working for himself and is making a good living off the internet with his servers and web hosting. Having recently completed his Certificate IV in Information Technology at TAFE, Nick is looking to complete his Diploma in IT in 2006. Nick has also completed both the CCNA and Microsoft courses, although is yet to sit the final certification tests.
Sam Duff
Sam is Network & Systems Administrator, maintaining a network for a successful real estate company in Tasmania. He enjoys his work too. Sam performs the usual roles such as systems maintenance and keeping the sales and administrative staff up to speed with training and support. On other days, Sam might find himself at war with a script kiddie who's trying to probe their systems for vulnerabilities.
With a background which includes TAFE certificates in IT, Sam is also a big Unix fan. Some of his work includes the building and maintenance of a secure Unix file server for managing the company's busy intranet.
When he gets the time, Sam loves to dabble with new, open source solutions which he might be able to put to use for the growing real estate business.
